Guest_phil, it would be advisable to at least check your vocabulary skills before berating others for their lack of them. There are many kinds of irony, however people who fashion themselves experts on needlessly correcting others often assume that, like the philosophy they so often represent, there is only one absolute. This is not the case. I don't believe that the irony you refer to, verbal irony, is the irony that was conveyed by the picture. Instead, the creator of the image is refering to situational irony, where there exists a disparity between the outcome of an event and what is expected of the event. While this type of irony is perhaps the most subjective of all types, it is valid. Allow me to explain further:
The Event: FOX news creates a poll about biased new sources.
The Expected Outcome: To be equitable, FOX lists itself as one of the options.
The Actual Outcome: FOX does not list itself as an option.
The Event: FOX news creates a poll about biased new sources.
The Expected Outcome: FOX News would list itself as an option, given that not including an option that would be commonly selected on a poll would introduce a bias, and this poll is ABOUT bias.
The Actual Outcome: FOX does not list itself as an option.
It is essentially the equivalent of you placing your irony post in a topic intended to educate people about the multiple meanings of irony. Hopefully you'll be a little more aware and a have a little less misguided pedanticalness in the future.
